CASHMERE CARE
Following care instructions will make your cashmere softer and improve with age, giving you many years of pleasure. Time is the best fabric softener in this case.
WASH
We highly recommend washing over dry-cleaning, preferably by hand as even hand-wash settings on your washing machine can add to the risk of damaging the cashmere fibres. If you do want to use your washing machine, make sure to choose for a very gentle cycle without centrifuging, and put each cashmere item in a separate laundry mesh bag.
For regular wear, try to avoid washing cashmere whenever possible and often try to ‘spot-clean’ to prolong the life of the garment. Steaming is also an excellent solution to refresh your knits.
Letting your cashmere knitwear rest for a couple of days after wearing, will also help to extend its life.
BY HAND
Soak each item separately in a clean bowl or sink with formulated shampoo or organic baby shampoo and lukewarm water. (max. 30 degrees)
Turn inside out and gently squeeze clean for a couple of minutes, do not rub but let it soak for about 15 to 20 minutes. Let the detergent do the work, do not apply any force through the garments.
Drain the dirty water and thoroughly rinse in fresh lukewarm water.
Gently remove the water by pressing your sweater into a ball, avoid that gut feeling to wring it. Treating it with softness is a vital step throughout the entire process.
Then tenderly squeeze it in a towel to get the water out, lay it on a flat surface to dry.
DRY
Gently reshape to its original size and dry flat over a towel in a shady spot.
Do not tumble dry as the cashmere will definitely shrink and do not hang to dry to avoid sagging.
PILLING
Knits made from natural fibers can pill. These annoying fuzz balls can show up after a single wear, especially in areas where friction occurs (e.g. under the arms, where the seat belt rubs or where you carry your handbag). Pilling occurs most frequently when cashmere is brand new. It will pill less and less if cared for well. We recommend using a fabric shaver from time to time, but make sure the knitwear item lays on a flat surface!
STORAGE
Your sweater may not look dirty but traces of food, dust, skin and hair can still hide between the fibres and increase the chance of attracting moths that will ruin your favourite cashmere. Therefore we recommend to give your cashmere knits a good cleanse before storing for longer periods of time .
Do not hang your cashmere garments up for storage. Fold them and store them in a drawer or a storage box.
